college president raises grotesque and obscene - in a heat pump
The head of the public university in Ontario has just lifted their salary increase.
Now, they are considering a big raise for themselves --
In some cases, they are paid more than $100,000, or 50% of their wages.
They have posted their suggestions online and have kindly asked for our opinions.
Let's make it simple and clear: greed is indescribable.
Bold is the mindblowing.
The proposed salary increase is ridiculous and obscene.
It is no surprise that Deputy Prime Minister Debb Matthews, commenting on the George Brown College proposal to raise the president's salary from $359,000 to $494,000 --wait for it —
A "dialogue.
Matthews said that wages have been "frozen for a while, and we hope to have a rational and reasonable dialogue about what compensation should be received . "
We obviously want to attract the best and brightest people, but we don't want to pay more than we have.
"Not more vague, smarter --
The "dialogue" in Washington, the government should send a clear message that it will not tolerate the apparent greed of these presidents and run in the public slot.
Ontario public service employees union has reason to be angry.
"The most disturbing thing for us is (comparison)
It's Pearson, Toronto, "said RM Kennedy, head of the academic department of the college, which represents 12,000 teachers.
"Pearson, Toronto has 40,000 employees.
This is more than twice the size of the largest university.
"The Northern College of Timmins has 1,900 students and serves as a comparison of large institutions such as Humber University, seneca University and Sheridan University, as well as the University of York and the University of Toronto Health Network.
It hopes to raise the president's salary to $259,000 from $325,000.
Others compare themselves to Pearson airport or LCBO with 40,000 employees.
Universities of all sizes have joined the ranks.
Talk about catching the straw.
How can this happen?
"Part of the reason that the government has set up this framework is to correct the unreasonable high salaries of colleges and universities.
"The government has seen abuse in this system and has taken action to correct the situation," said Allison Buchan . "
Terry, spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education.
In other words, the situation is getting worse because the government is trying to solve the problem.
Before we were brought to the cleaners, Matthews should go back to the drawing and be quick.
If the process does not stop, some university administrators will eventually be more than university presidents.
Then guess what happens?
In turn, university presidents would ask for a substantial increase because, frankly, it is difficult to justify, for example, that the salaries of university presidents in Ottawa are lower than those of the presidents of the Algonquin College.
President Algonquin may consider raising 40% of the money, up to $124,000, to $445,000, when universities are protesting the lack of provincial government resources.
It initially proposed $494,000, but reduced the amount after some feedback.
Algonquin initially compared himself to four universities, Guelph, York, Waterloo and Sait --
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary; four health-
Nursing Facilities: William Osler Health System, Ottawa Hospital, Hamilton Health Science Center and Baycrest health science in Toronto in Brampton;
Four other "wider public sector" organizations: LCBO in Toronto, MaRS Innovation Center, Pearson airport and BEHP-
A combined utility company in Brampton and Etobicoke.
After receiving the criticism, Algonquin decided to give up the last four comparators and replace them with four colleges: Conestoga, seneca, Humber and Sheridan.
Incredibly, Algonquin had the courage to go there even in the first place.
The Algonquin College teaches courses such as trade.
Think of advanced word processing, air conditioning, heat pump detection, cake decoration flowers, cake design, rather than lawyers, brain surgery.
We're going to February.
1 provide our input to the university as to how much we will allow the university principal to provide to the taxpayer.
I have done my part and now you have a few days to do your job.
Don't talk to them.
Let them know how you really feel. —
