geothermal hvac systems - most efficient air source heat pump
Geothermal HVAC system is one of the most energy-efficient systems, saving up to 70% energy.
Their lifecycle costs are also the lowest among all HVAC systems.
While these systems are initially more costly to install, they require less maintenance than conventional HVAC systems.
The basic geothermal HVAC system consists of three main parts.
The first part is the reversible refrigerant loop, which is an open or closed loop system.
By opening the loop, the water is pumped back into the system from the well and returned to another well or discharged to the surface.
This is the so-called "pump-n-
The Dump method is not very common.
Closed-loop systems are industry standards.
With this system, water is used over and over again rather than being dumped out.
The closed-loop system is installed in one of three ways: horizontal, vertical or submerged in a pond or lake.
Level: there is a series of plastic pipes buried in the trenches 4 feet deep.
This method is economical if there is enough land.
Vertical: pipes are buried in a series of holes 20 feet deep.
Then fill the hole with grouting, which ensures good heat transfer between the pipe and the ground.
This method is more expensive to install, but less land is needed, which makes it more common in big cities and towns.
The last method is to install a circulation system in a pond or lake.
The second part of the geothermal HVAC system is the heat pump.
In addition to the lack of equipment, the pump works like a typical gas-path heat pump.
The heat pump uses a check valve to change the direction of the refrigerant flow, which determines whether the heat is added or removed from the air.
It can also provide hot water by adding a thermostat, which is combined with an ordinary electric water heater.
The last part is the pipe system, which is similar to the traditional pipe system, just bigger. (
