how to replace the bearings of an evaporative cooler - how to make a swamp cooler
Over time, the bearings on the evaporation cooler are worn out due to use, as the drive shaft keeps turning while the cooler is working, causing the bearing to vibrate and create friction.
If the bearings do not oil on a regular basis, they may dry up and start to break or make noise.
Replacing the bearing can be done by taking the bracket off the stabilizer bar on the side of the cooler with some basic tools.
Turn the water off the evaporation cooler at the valve and close the circuit breaker at the circuit breaker box before attempting to replace the cooler bearing.
Remove the cooler panel from all three sides and set the stop.
Loosen the bolts on the motor with a socket wrench and remove the belt from the motor pulley to remove the tension on the drive shaft.
Loosen the bolts at the top of the bearing housing at both ends of the drive shaft with a socket wrench and remove the bracket from the top of the bearing.
Slide the old bearing from both ends of the drive shaft and remove it from the evaporation cooler.
Place the new bearing at the end of the drive shaft and fix the fixing bracket to the top of the bearing with a bolt.
Refuel The New bearing by placing 3 or 4 drops of non-oil
Detergent lubricating oil in the top oil cap of two bearing supports.
Place the belt around the motor pulley and then pull the motor to increase the tension of the belt while tightening the bolts on the motor.
Put the cooler panel back in place and re-open the water at the closing valve.
Open the circuit breaker of the circuit breaker box evaporation cooler.
