personal health; ways to save the planet and get healthy, too - room evaporative air coolers
By JANE E. BRODYNOV.
As the winter weather approaches and the wind begins to weaken in November, you may think that global warming is a myth.
But you're wrong.
Extreme weather in recent years-
Temperature mutation, drought, flood, heat wave-
It may or may not be the result of the gradual warming of the Earth.
But with climate warming, the human activity of burning fossil fuels is at least part of the increase, perhaps the reason for most of the increase.
When coal, oil and gas burn, they release
Known as a greenhouse gas, it gathers the heat of the sun in the Earth's atmosphere.
You may also think that the main industry is the culprit, so there is little you can do to alleviate the problem.
You're wrong again.
A handy book by environmental policy experts offers 51 easy ways, many of which are money-saving and we can all use these methods to minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
Most changes can be made without affecting the quality of modern life.
In fact, they can often improve their living conditions, such as relying more on human energy and less on natural gas.
Electric cars can also improve health.
The title of the book is "you can prevent global warming (and Save Money! )
, 'Was written by the doctor.
Jeffrey langhouse of Monterey Institute of International Studies, California and Kelly Turner, environmental writer.
It was published this year (
Andrews mcmel Press in Kansas City, Missouri. , $10. 95).
Reduce 11 greenhouse gases, one is carbon dioxide, which is the main gas formed when organic matter burns, accounting for more than half of the global warming problem in the world.
For example, a typical passenger car emits 12,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
The burning power plant released about 3 billion pounds.
The second greenhouse gas methane is rare, but it has 23 times the power of global warming. HOME ENERGY --
The way you illuminate, heat and cool your home, how you prepare and store food, and even the way you use water, can have a significant impact on energy conservation.
Switch from incandescent to long bulb
Durable compact fluorescent bulbs, with dimmer switches and motion sensors, turn off the lights when you leave the room, can greatly reduce the use and cost of your appliances.
Don't overwork.
The refrigerator is kept at 37 to 40 degrees and the refrigerator is kept at 0 to 5 degrees.
Increase the temperature of each refrigerator in the United States by 1 degree, and 3 million tons of carbon dioxide will enter the atmosphere every year.
Get rid of the old, inefficient refrigerator and save $150 a year.
Show the same restraint with air
Adjustment in summer return: 1 degree of warmth, 5 degrees.
5 million tons of carbon dioxide will be stored in the atmosphere.
More rely on cooling techniques that consume less energy like ceiling or window fans, evaporation coolers, and dehumidifiers.
Close the curtains, blinds or blinds on sunny windows, or install the awning or solar window screen.
Ventilation, better isolation of the attic, blockage of air leakage around doors and windows.
These measures will also reduce heat waste in the cool months.
Heat the floor above the unheated basement and crawl space.
With a larger initial investment, you can also save on cooling and heating costs by replacing old windows, stoves and air, reducing greenhouse gasesconditioners.
Best windows, those low windowsemissivity (low-E)
The coating that limits heat transfer is five times as insulated as a single coating
Doctor, the windows are ready.
Langholz and Ms. Turner report.
Advertising can also help you save energy costs.
Evergreen forest on the north side of the House can cut heating costs by third.
You can cut the air.
According to the calculation of planting area, the adjustment cost is half (bushes, high-
Canopy, vines on the shed)
There are also wooden screens that cover the roof and the most sunny walls and air --conditioners.

As the author points out, the trees are "the air of nature --conditioners.
In addition to providing shade, when water evaporates, they actually cool the surrounding air about nine degrees.
Of course, you don't want to go against the goal by planting more plants than the energy they save.
For example, grass requires more water and maintenance than any other plant you might plant.
It must also be trimmed, and gasoline is usually required for pruning.
Rechargeable electric mower, or better yet, the old one
The old-fashioned push mower that uses your energy is much better.
Consider your climate: temperate-
Regional planting in the desert is both wasteful and expensive for the environment.
In order to avoid wasting water, the sprinkler should be fitted with an automatic rain sensor for plants only, not sidewalks and lanes. ENERGY-WISE TRAVEL --
Affordable Americans tend to be highly independent and self-reliant. indulgent.
Gas injection number-guzzling S. U. V.
On the road today, only the number of drivers driving during peak hours.
Cars account for 21% of global warming emissions.
Avoid quick acceleration and idling, keep tires properly inflated and slowed-
The faster you drive more than 55 miles per hour, the more gas you use per mile.
Consider energy when you're ready for a new carsaving gas-
Electric hybrid, check fuel efficiency before purchasing.
Take public transport or use carpooling whenever possible.
It is also possible to consider telecommuting one day or more a week.
Combine errands to reduce the number of trips and shop, bank and pay bills online as much as possible.
Better yet, use your own strength: your feet, bike, or people --
Electric scooter for a mile or so.
This can eliminate about one
Ranked fourth in all car travel. LOW-ENERGY DIET --
You can save the Earth and the people on Earth and improve your health by changing the way you eat and waste are treated.
Beef cattle are the main producers of methane. after termites)
Followed by sheep and pigs.
Eating more chicken and fish is better for you and the health of the Earth.
Better yet, eat less animal food and more plant food, especially those that grow organically, which means less energy.
Use pesticides. Dr. advertising
Langholz and Ms.
Turner points out that reaching your table by truck, ship and/or plane takes an average of 1,200 miles per meal.
In order to reduce the energy cost of carrying food, eat more locally grown products.
Shop at the farmers market.
Grow your own organic vegetable garden if possible.
Finally, learn all about recycling and reuse materials.
Compost all vegetable waste (including lawn decoration and leaves) and use the resulting soil for planting.
Repeat the shopping bag and your own bag for groceries. PACKAGING --
